Phyllis Jackson played women’s basketball at Southern Arkansas during the early 1980s and is one of 14 players all-time to score over 1,000 career points. Her 1,135 career points are currently 13th on the all-time scoring list at SAU.

In 1984 as a junior, Jackson became the first women’s basketball player at SAU to be named All-AIC as it was the first year that the AIC sponsored women’s basketball. Later that same year, Jackson was named NAIA All-District 17 Honorable Mention. A year later, as a senior, Jackson averaged 18.7 points per game, shot over 50% from the floor and averaged 9.0 rebounds per game as she repeated as an All-AIC player while adding NAIA All-Area V and NAIA All-America Honorable Mention plaudits.

For her career, Jackson would average 14.6 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game while also shooting better than 44% overall from the floor.
