Dr. Jack Harrington retired from Southern Arkansas University as Professor of Agriculture June 30, 1994.  For a retired person, Harrington has remained extremely active, involved in numerous area organizations.
           
Harrington was  the official scorekeeper at Mulerider home basketball games from 1963 until 1994, and was the public address announcer at SAU home football games from 1965 until 1995 (his son, Jeff, is currently the public address announcer).

Harrington coached the Mulerider baseball team from 1978-80, and served the university as sports information director in 1978-79.  He was on the Board of Trustees at SAU from 1995 until 2000, was the recipient of the SAU Distinguished Alumni Award in 1995, and was on the Board of Governors of the SAU Foundation in 1998.

He received his P.H.D. from Louisiana State University in 1969, his M.Ed. from the University of Arkansas in 1962, and his B.S.A. degree from Arkansas in 1956.  He attended Magnolia A&M College in 1949-50, was in the United States Air Force from 1950-53, and attended Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University) in 1953-54.

Harrington has remained part-time with the SAU Foundation since 2003, working with athletic endowments and scholarships.

Married to the former Mona Lee Steadman, a retired elementary teacher, the Harrington’s have four children, Jayna Callender, Brian Harrington, Jeff Harrington, and Monty Harrington, all graduates of Southern Arkansas.

Harrington passed away on March 26, 2011, at the age of 79.
