Arturo Cherena was a Second Team National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA) All-America selection for Southern Arkansas University in 1987. He led the Muleriders to third place in the NAIA College World Series that season, and a 46-7 record, which was the most wins in SAU baseball history until broken in 2009.
Cherena was also Honorable Mention NAIA All-America on a powerful 1988 Mulerider team. Â He was All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference (AIC) in both 1987 and 1988.
Cherena was as outstanding defensively as he was at the plate.  He set Mulerider records for the most Games Played in a Career with 187, the Most Times at Bat in a Career with 592, the Most Hits in a Career with 229, the Most Doubles in a Career with 54, the Most Home Runs in a Career with 26, the Most Runs Batted In over a Career with 204, the Most RBI’s in a season with 88 in 1988, the Most Runs scored in a Career with 155, the Most Total Bases in a Career with 339, and the Most Assists in a Career with 321 from 1985 through 1988.
R2 still shares the school record with 88 RBI in a season, is second all-time with 204 RBI in a career, and third all-time with 54 career doubles and 229 career hits.
Cherena entered into the pharmaceutical industry after completing his education. Â He worked over 15 years with two of the top Fortune 500 companies in the food and beverage industry, leading their sales and marketing teams in Latin America and the Caribbean markets.
He joined ReComS Group in 2003 as director of sales and marketing with responsibilities in the outsourcing (Regulatory Compliance Services) business. Â In 2005, Cherena was involved in major capital acquisitions for the company in Puerto Rico and Central America, significantly expanding business with Johnson & Johnson.
He also was promoted to Senior Vice President for Business development. Â In 2009, ReComS Group merged operations with Pace Analytical Life Sciences.
