Julian Frazier, a native of Smackover, was a First Team National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America tailback at Southern Arkansas University in 1993. Frazier was also First Team NAIA All-District 17 running back for the Muleriders, as well as First Team All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference (AIC) tailback.
Frazier, who led the nation (NAIA) in rushing as a freshman, still holds the Southern Arkansas Season Rushing record of 1,327 yards, also set in 1993. He averaged 5.5 yards a carry, had a 132.3 rushing average per game, and scored 14 touchdowns to lead every conference rushing category that year. He was named the NAIA District 17 Offensive Player of the Week numerous times during the season.
Julian played for Coach Don Tumey, as SAU posted a 6-4 record against a strong schedule. Frazier’s value was highlighted in a game that year at Searcy against Harding University. On a rainy field that afternoon, The Muleriders kept the ball away from Harding with Frazier churning out first down after first down on the mud-soaked field. When SAU needed three yards for a first down, Frazier plowed for four. When SAU needed two yards, he gained three, en route to a hard-earned win.
The sturdy-built 6-0, 219-pound power runner, also had enough speed to be an outside threat, as well as inside. Frazier was injured prior to his sophomore season in 1994, and participated in only four games, and had only 94 yards. As a junior, he rushed for 441 yards in 10 games on 117 carries, and as a senior in 1996, he had 304 yard in nine games. Never the same after the injury, Frazier still finished with 2166 career yards.
Frazier came to SAU after a brief professional baseball career. He was drafted out of high school by the San Francisco Giants in 1991 in the seventh round. He played in the Rookie League at Scottsdale, Arizona.
Julian and Allison Parlor are the parents of two children, 15-year old son Darius, and 13-year old daughter, Makara. He still resides in Smackover, and is a quality engineer with Lockheed-Martin in East Camden.
