Tony Garcia, who is widely regarded as one of the best hitters of all-time within the illustrious history of Mulerider baseball, played at SAU for two years (1986-1987). In his two seasons with the Muleriders, Garcia would amass a .424 career batting average and a .783 career slugging percentage. Both of those marks still stand as career records within the Mulerider baseball program.

In his junior season of 1986, Garcia was named as an All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference (AIC) First Baseman and played on the South team in the AIC All-Star game. Later that year, Garcia was also named as a NAIA All-District 17 performer at First Base.

In his senior season of 1987, Garcia was one the key cogs for a Mulerider team that would go an impressive 46-7 overall while finishing third in the NAIA College World Series. That year would see Garcia rack up more individual honors as he earned NAIA All-Area V and NAIA All-America Honorable Mention recognition in addition to repeating as All-AIC and All-District 17 at First Base.

In addition to his two career records still standing, Garcia remains a record-holder in slugging percentage in a season (.830 – 1987), walks in a season (58 – 1987) and runs scored in a game (6 – 1987 vs. Arkansas Tech).
