In 1990, Michelle Shoppach followed up legendary coach and 2008 SAU Hall of Fame Inductee, Dr. Ginger Hurst, as the head coach of the Southern Arkansas volleyball program. After stepping into the program just one year after it posted its best season ever by going 42-4 in 1989, Coach Shoppach began the process of leaving her mark on the program.
    
Shoppach would go on to coach SAU volleyball for the next seven years (1990-1996), and in that time, Shoppach would guide six of her seven teams to winning records as she amassed an impressive 157-88 (.641) record, ranking her second all-time among SAU volleyball coaches.
    
Additionally, four of her teams would win over 20 matches in a season, a feat that has only happened three times in the 16 years since her coaching days. The 1994 season was perhaps Shoppach's best at SAU as she led her team to a 32-11 record and an AIC Championship.
