A transfer from Phillips University, Jenny (Meziere) Hathorn was a part of SAU Softball’s first recruiting class and was a standout pitcher for the then-Riderettes in the program’s first two seasons of action in 1999 and 2000. A native of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, she finished her career at Southern Arkansas as a two-time All-Gulf South Conference pitcher and as a GSC All-Academic Honor Roll selection.

During her two years in the circle, Meziere carried a majority of the load for SAU, serving as the program’s catalyst in setting a solid foundation for future Lady Mulerider teams. She appeared in 79 games and made 70 starts as she totaled what now stands as the third-most innings in a career at 455.1. Additionally, Meziere registered 61 complete games, a dozen shutouts and four saves. The right-hander won 38 games, the fifth-most in program history, which includes the program’s historic first win: a two-hit shutout of Missouri-Rolla on February 26, 1999.

As a junior in the program’s inaugural year, Meziere helped SAU to a respectable 22-25 record overall with a 14-12 mark in the highly-competitive GSC. She accounted for 20 of the team’s wins that first season behind a 2.02 ERA and 73 strikeouts. Undoubtedly the team’s go-to in the circle, Meziere appeared in 42 of the team’s 47 games with 38 starts and 31 complete games.

The load in the circle lightened some for Meziere in the following season, but the senior continued to dominate as she was responsible for 18 of the club’s 34 wins, including the program’s first two postseason victories, in a season that saw Southern Arkansas finish second in the GSC West standings with a 15-6 conference mark, before making a trip to the semifinals of the GSC Tournament.

In her final campaign, Meziere lowered her ERA to 1.60, picked up 71 strikeouts, and again reached the mark of 30 complete games, while being named a First-Team All-GSC performer.

Twenty years after the program began, Meziere remains one of the program’s most efficient hurlers as she owns the career mark for Fewest Walks per 7 Innings at 0.61, while also holding top five marks in several other career pitching categories, including Complete Games (2nd | 61), Innings Pitched (3rd | 455.1), Games Started (T3rd | 70), Shutouts (4th | 12), Wins (5th | 38), and ERA (5th | 1.81).

Furthermore, Meziere is one of six 20-game winners in a single-season in program history and is the only pitcher in school history to record multiple seasons of 30 or more complete games.
