Jim Leonard, a native of Dumas, Ark., played running back for Southern Arkansas in the 1960s. During that time, Leonard was widely regarded as the catalyst of the Mulerider offense.
   Â
A two-time All-AIC running back, Leonard would set a pair of single-game records in 1965 that would stand until 2005, an impressive run of 40 years. The two records set by Leonard at the time were the most rushing yards in a game (225 – 1965 vs. Ouachita Baptist) and the most all-purpose yards in a game (255 – 1965 vs. Ouachita Baptist).Â
  Â
Both of those single-game marks remain in the top-five at SAU of their respective categories as Leonards' previous single-game rushing record is now the fourth-best rushing effort in a single game in SAU history. Likewise, his previous single-game all-purpose yardage record is now fourth-best in a single game in SAU history.
