Hall of Fame
Marcus Murphy enjoyed an outstanding two-year career in track and field at Southern Arkansas earning All-AIC and NAIA All-America honors in 1992 and 1993.
In 1992, Murphy, as an individual, won the 100-meter dash (10.64) and the 200-meter dash (21.48) while also anchoring the first-place 1600-meter relay team (3:15.06) at the AIC Championship meet. In the 400-meter relay that year, Murphy served as the anchor leg, and after placing second at the AIC Championships, that relay team would go on to capture the NAIA National Championship in the event with a time of 40.82. Also at the national championships that year, Murphy would finish third overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.56.
The following year, Murphy would once more be the anchor leg of the 400-meter relay team and at the AIC Championships that relay team would win the event with a time of 40.74, which was the top time in the NAIA to that point of the year. In the prelims of the 1993 NAIA National Championships, Murphy and his 400-meter relay team would better their AIC Championship time and posted a 40.38 mark, which still stands as a program record.
Individually at the national championships that year, Murphy would finish runner-up in the 100-meter dash with a non-wind aided school record time of 10.38.
