Harold Jameson, a 1954 graduate of Southern State College which later became Southern Arkansas University, served as the university’s sports information director for seven years before moving from full to part-time responsibilities in the department.  He is now in his fifth year in that capacity.

Jameson is a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for 31 years, the Arkansas Army National Guard, where he retired as first sergeant after 34 ½ years, and was the sports editor of the Banner-News for over 40 years.

He also corresponded with the sports departments of the Arkansas Gazette and Arkansas Democrat before they merged into the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the Texarkana Gazette, the El Dorado News-Times, and the Shreveport Times, for which he wrote a weekly column “Porker Picks.”  He has covered Mulerider and Lady Mulerider sports for more than 50 years, starting as a freshman at Southern Arkansas in 1950.

The late W.T. Watson, who was the SAU director of athletics at the time, asked Jameson if he would serve as the Southern Arkansas SID because he did not have enough money in his budget to hire a full-time employee.  Jameson agreed to help his long-time friend in 1993 and 12 years later is still serving in the athletic department.  His move from SID to Associate SID was primarily because of a desire to watch his son, Jay, a coach-director of athletics at Edgewood, Texas, coach and to witness his grandchildren involved in athletic events.

Jameson spent untold hours with microfilm, yearbooks, newspaper clippings, and other resources in updating Mulerider-Lady Mulerider athletic records that were in disarray because there was no sports information director for so many years.

Married to the former Betty Greene, the Jameson’s have two children, Jay and Jill.  Jay married the former Tamara Moorer of Bald Knob, twice an All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference and All-American basketball player at Arkansas Tech.  They have three children, Weston, Trey, and Hanna.  Jill is married to Marc Anderson and they have two children, Mallory and Madeline.  They live in Conway.
