When it comes to defensive players in the famed Rip Powell Era of Mulerider Football, Glen Bucy is at the top of the list. A product of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Bucy was a defensive stalwart for four seasons under Powell and was a major contributor to the Muleriders' 1972 Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference (AIC) championship; the program's first conference title in 20 years.

That championship season, the rangy Bucy led a Mulerider defense that was tops in the AIC in total defense at 196.5, while opponents averaged just 12.6 points per game. SSC surrendered less than 120 yards per game on the ground which was the leading mark in the conference, while its 77.3 yards allowed through the air per game was the second-fewest among AIC defenses.

Those top marks by the SSC defense were consistent with the unit's performance during Bucy's sophomore and junior seasons. In 1970 and 1971, the Muleriders, with Bucy's 6-4 frame manning an end spot led the league in total defense each season and posted top three marks in both rushing defense and passing defense each year as those dominant campaigns came after the Muleriders ranked last in defense in Bucy's freshman season of 1969.

Individually, the '69 campaign was successful for Bucy who recovered three fumbles, including one for a 53-yard touchdown and finished fourth on the team in tackles with 91.

For his career, Bucy logged over 250 career tackles, recovered three fumbles, recorded two interceptions and scored twice. The fearsome defensive end was a four-time All-AIC selection with first-team honors coming after his senior season of 1972; the same year he was tabbed an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American.
