California native brings success at multiple levels to Magnolia

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas University Head Track & Field Coach Tim Servis has announced the hiring of Jhad Jones to the position of assistant coach for the upcoming 2021-22 athletic year. Jones will be in charge of sprints, hurdles and jumps for both the Mulerider Men's & Women's Track & Field programs, while assisting with both cross country programs as well.

Jones, a native of California, brings success from multiple levels of competition to Magnolia. Most recently, Jones served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division III Cal Lutheran University where he coached hurdlers for the past two and a half seasons.

While at CLU, Jones also coached sprinters and hurdlers as an assistant coach at Moorpark College of the California Community College Athletic Association which preceded his time at Cal Lutheran as he has held that position since January of 2016.

Prior to moving into the collegiate coaching ranks, Jones served as the sprints, hurdles and jumps coach at North Hollywood High School from June of 2006 through December of 2015.

At each of his coaching stops, Jones saw multiple players under his directions set program records, earn state and national athletic and academic accolades and qualify for state and national events.

As an athlete, he competed in the sprints and hurdles at Eastern Oregon University, Moorpark College and California State University Northridge.

Jones earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a Sports Studies emphasis from California State-Northridge and holds United States of America Track & Field (USATF) certifications in Level II Sprints/Hurdles/Relays (2020), Level II Jumps (2017) and Level I (2016).
