ROME, Ga. – ITA Central Region Singles Champion Amelie Gindl competed over three days at the prestigious ITA Cup in Rome, Ga., and finished with a 1-2 singles record. Gindl is the first Mulerider Woman in history to participate in the tournament and compete against the top talent in the country of Division II.
The sophomore saw Columbus State's Nikoline Gullacksen in the first round of the tournament and dropped in two sets 3-6, 2-6. During the second day of the tournament Gindl bounced back from the loss the day before and claimed a two-set victory over Charleston's Sofiia Krasikova 7-5, 6-3, which sent her to the consolation semifinal.
Gindl played against Harding's Alexia Zarate Valdez in the consolation semifinal and proved once again her will to battle until the very end. She came back from dropping the first set 1-6 to claim the second set 6-1 and despite saving one match point in the third set, Gindl dropped the final set 3-6.
Her run at the ITA Cup puts her on a 14-2 singles record going into the last tournament of the fall season.
The Muleriders are heading to the Great American Conference Individual Championships, hosted by Harding October 18-19 for one last tournament of the 2024 fall season.
