Strong Showings Across the Board for SAU at Bill Schmidt Invite

DENTON, Texas - Southern Arkansas Track & Field turned in a solid performance at the Bill Schmidt Invite in Denton, Texas, on Saturday, April 5. 

In the field events, the Muleriders saw several standout finishes. On the women's side, Kailyn Thomas earned a runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.66 meters, followed by Keyonce Brown in fourth (46.20m) and Irieyanna Wilson in sixth (45.11m). Wilson also had a strong showing in the shot put, placing second with a throw of 13.47 meters, while Thomas secured fourth (12.78m) and Anaya Ervin rounded out the top ten with a 10.67-meter mark. In the women's triple jump, Diamond Brunn placed sixth with a distance of 11.07 meters, and Breyonna Steward claimed ninth at 10.43 meters. Ambree Collinsworth led the women's javelin effort, finishing fourth (36.17m), while Ervin also placed tenth (28.75m).

On the men's side, Keith Smith took first place in the triple jump with a mark of 14.74 meters, with Chad Blake following in third at 14.25 meters. In the long jump, Derrick Onyeador landed in second place with a leap of 6.98 meters, and Jakeylon Jones finished sixth with a mark of 6.83 meters. Jason Patrick threw 53.21 meters in the hammer throw to earn fifth place, while Korbin McAuliffe placed sixth in the javelin at 45.35 meters. In the pole vault, Joseph Boyd cleared 4.30 meters to finish tenth. The men's shot put crew placed closely together with Andrew Rogers (7th, 12.96m), Bo Rogers (9th, 12.35m), and Jonovan Gamble (10th, 12.12m) all scoring top-10 finishes.

In the running events, the Muleriders had strong performances in the steeplechase. Logan Warren placed fourth in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:17.46, followed by Alyzah McGlasson in fifth at 12:28.76. On the men's side, Joseph Uc finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking in at 10:27.05. Wesley Maxwell represented the Muleriders in the 5000m run, placing tenth with a time of 15:50.90.

Rylee Robinson competed in both the women's 1500m and 800m runs, finishing fifth and eighth respectively, with a time of 2:31.00 in the 800m.

In the relays, the men's 4x100 meter team, composed of Christian Cobb, Trysten Richey, Christian Johnson, and La'Tavion Mays, finished fifth with a time of 42.35 seconds. Mays also competed individually in the men's 200m dash, placing ninth with a time of 21.92 seconds.

Overall, Southern Arkansas delivered a strong, well-rounded effort at the Bill Schmidt Invite, earning multiple top-three finishes and gaining valuable experience as the outdoor season continues. Next up for the Muleriders is the Carl Kight Invite & Multi hosted by Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas on April 10-12.
