Two Program Records Accounted for at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. — Mulerider Track & Field finished up competition at the Louisiana Classics, as the Blue and Gold had an impressive outing at the two-day meet with 22 total top-ten finishes, a pair of first-place spots, and three provisional marks met. 

Mulerider Women

For the women, Southern Arkansas saw six top-ten marks while recording one event winner and two provisional mark. 

Breaking another program record for outdoor, Jordan Collins recorded a second-place finish in the 400-meter with a time of 54.00, which also goes down as a provisional mark. Collins went on to out-pace 16 athletes from NCAA Division I. 

Another provisional mark met for SAU came in the long jump, as senior Diamond Brunn leaped out to 6.02m (19' 9") to win the event and out-jump 23 NCAA Division I athletes. 

In the 4x400, the Mulerider Women (Jayla Davila, Kamryn Floyd, Kendal Fellegy, Jordan Collins) finished in seventh-place with a team time of 3:59.74.

Mulerider Men

All around for the men, SAU saw solid showings, as the Muleriders accounted for 16 top-ten finishes with a first-place finish, a provisional mark, and a program record. 

The first-place finish, provisional mark, and a program record all came out of one athlete. Fresh off a First Team All-American performance at the NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field National Championships, Keith Smith out-skilled his competition in the triple jump with a jump of 15.69m (51' 5.75") to finish first in the event, record a program record, and a provisional mark.

Southern Arkansas' next task will come the weekend after next, as the Muleriders will head to Austin, Texas for qualifiers only meet at the Texas Relays, while the remainder of Southern Arkansas athletes will head to Nacogdoches, Texas to compete in the Carl Kight Invitational & Multi's.
