Three Individual Championships; 15 All-GAC Plaudits Earned on Day Three of GAC Meet

SEARCY, Ark. — The Great American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships have come to an end, as the Mulerider Women finished in fourth out of ninth teams, while the Mulerider Men finished fifth out of seven. 

Mulerider Women

On the final day, the women tallied three individual championships, three All-GAC First Team marks, and two All-GAC Second Team marks. For relays, the SAU women's 4x100 team (Edriana Hunter, Kamryn Floyd, Jayla Davila, and Asia Caver) finished in sixth with a time of 48.35, while the 4x400 group (Kendal Fellegy, Jayla Davila, Kamryn Floyd, and Jordan Collins) finished in fifth with a time of 3:53.50. 

All three of Southern Arkansas' First Team members, ended up also being individual champions, as freshman Skyler Phillips won the Discus Throw with a personal best throw of 46.99m (154' 2"), which also goes down as a provisional mark. The other two championships on the day was recorded by senior Jordan Collins, as the Huntsville, Texas native set personal bests, program records, and GAC Meet records in the 100m and 200m. Collins went on to break the GAC record in the 100m with a time of 11.59 while also breaking the 200m record for the meet with her time of 23.50. Her 100m time now sits at 18th nationally, while her 200m time is tenth nationally. 

The Southern Arkansas women to record Second Team honors were Diamond Brunn and Kamryn Floyd. Brunn accounted for a leap in the Triple Jump of 11.79m (38' 8.25") to place fifth, while Floyd finished in fifth for the 100m with her time of 11.87. 

Mulerider Men

The Mulerider Men finished day three with three All-GAC First Team showings, while also recording five All-GAC Second Team plaudits and two All-GAC Honorable Mention marks. In the 4x100, the Muleriders (Kaleb Ellis, Keith Smith, Christian Johnson, and Anthony Hicks) finishing the running in sixth with their time of 42.23, while the 4x400 team (Jaxon Plunkett, Anthony Hicks, Darius James, and Tyrese Townsend) capped the meet off in seventh with a time of 3:23.57. 

All three of the men's First Team marks ended with third-place finishes in each of their respective events. In the Discus Throw, Jericho Gamble placed third with his toss of 49.27m (161' 8"). In the Triple Jump, Keith Smith recorded a jump of 15.47m (50' 9"), and placed third in the event. The final First Team of the meet for the Muleriders was Jaxon Plunkett, as the sophomore finished with a time of 53.88 in the 400m Hurdles to finish in third. 

Along with Plunkett, Tyrese Townsend acquired a Second Team honor, as the freshman recorded a time of 55.24 in the 400m Hurdles. Competing alongside Smith, Chad Blake accounted for a Second Team plaudit with a Triple Jump distance of 14.65m (48' 0.75"). Two Second Team honors came in Pole Vault, with Joseph Boyd placing fifth (4.61m | 15' 1.5") and Landry Leigh placing sixth (4.61m | 15' 1.5"). Claiming his third Second Team membership of the week was Jonovan Gamble in the Discus Throw. The sophomore marked a spotting of 47.46m (155' 9") in the event and placed sixth. 

The Muleriders' two Honorable Mentions both came on the track, as Wesley Maxwell placed eighth in the 5,000m with his time of 14:55.79, and Tiquan Box recorded a seventh-place finish in the 110m Hurdles with his time of 15.21.
