MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The eighth annual Dan Veach Invitational has come to a close as the Muleriders Men saw 42 finish within the top ten, 25 in the top five, and four claim first-place. The Mulerider Women finalized the home meet with 31 finishers inside the top ten, 23 inside the top five, and five first-place spots.
Mulerider Men
Earning first-place in the 5000 meters was
Isaac Gass as the junior from Jessieville, Arkansas crossed the finish line with a time of 15:24.12 for a new personal best in the outdoor season.
Celebrating senior day in a big way was
Derrick Onyeador, with the Arlington, Texas native claiming first in the long jump after flying and landing for a leap of 7.34m (24' 1" | 1.5 wind).
The final two first-place finishes for the Mulerider Men came from one man as
Jason Patrick went above and beyond in both the discus and hammer throw. Patrick claimed first in the discus after slinging the object for a ride of 51.29m (169' 3"). However, in the hammer throw, Patrick shattered a program record, which was once held by his own former coach Sinclair Pitts (54.40m | 178' 6"), after the Prescott, Arkansas native slung the hammer for 57.10m (187' 4") and broke Pitts' record by 2.693m (8' 10").
Landry Leigh also set a new school record in the men's pole valut with a mark of 15' 11.75" to best the previous school record of 15' 6" set by Conny Smith in 1976.
Both the 4x100m and 4x400m A teams for the men finished in second for their respective races as the 4x100m team (
Christian Cobb,
Landry Leigh,
Christian Johnson, and
La'Tavion Mays) crossed the finish line with a time of 41.68. The 4x400m team (
Jaxon Plunkett,
Jayquan Dickerson,
Joe Duirden, and
Landry Leigh) finalized their race with a time of 3:16.84.
Mulerider Women
Starting off with long distance for the women,
Logan Warren, who was also celebrating her senior day, finished in first place in the 3000m steeplechase as she concluded the race with a time of 11:34.22 and accounted for a personal best in her final meet at home.
Moving on to the field events,
Diamond Brunn walked away with another first-place spot this season as the native of Killeen, Texas recorded a leap of 11.59m (38' 0.25") in the triple jump and accounted for a new personal best in the event.
In shot put, Southern Arkansas'
Irieyanna Wilson, another senior with a spectacular outing, accounted for a shot put heave of 14.27m (46' 10") and broke her program record for the event that she had just set last weekend in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Kailyn Thomas, a fellow senior, placed second in the event with a shot of 12.93m (42' 5.25").
Thomas claimed her own first-place spot for the day as well after finishing in first for the hammer throw with her throw of 53.50m (175' 6") and breaking her old program record of 52.65m (172' 9").
While being final here, she was the first to claim a spot in first for the Muleriders today as freshman
Ambree Collinsworth recorded her second-straight meet with a javelin throw of 130 feet or more as she recorded a throw of 39.66m (130' 1") and came up nearly six feet short of her program record she set last week.
