Muleriders head to Kansas for 2025 Washburn Open

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Mulerider Women's and Men's Track and Field are back in action for the second time this indoor season as they are heading to Topeka, Kansas to compete at the 2025 Washburn Open. Washburn University hosts the event and it will take place over two days (Jan. 31-Feb. 1). With a full slate of sprints, distance races, jumps, and throws, the Muleriders will have plenty of opportunities to test themselves early in the season. 

The schedule is packed with events across two days, featuring a variety of combined, running, and field events for both men and women. On Friday, the day kicks off at 11:00 AM with the men's heptathlon events, including the 60m dash, long jump, shot put, and high jump. Running events begin at 11:30 AM with the 3000m race, followed by various sprint and distance races, including the 60m dash qualifiers, distance medley relays, and the 5000m run, which closes the day at 5:30 PM. Field events include the women's pole vault at 11:30 AM, men's and women's triple jump at 2:00 PM, and conclude with high jump at 3:30 PM.

On Saturday the heptathlon and pentathlon continues, starting at 10:00 AM with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles. Running events begin at 12:30 PM with the 3000m runs, followed by hurdles, dashes, miles, and relays. The evening will conclude with the men's and women's 4x400m relays at 7:35 PM and 8:20 PM, respectively. Meanwhile, field events feature men's and women's shot put, pole vault, long jump, and high jump.

Last weekend's performance was highlighted by Diamond Brunn and Keith Smith. Brunn delivered a standout performance in the long jump and claimed 1st place with a jump of 5.43m. Smith recorded a new personal best in the triple jump and earned 2nd place with a leap of 14.74m. He also earned Great American Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational.
