Onyeador wins Triple Jump, Muleriders finish third at GAC Championship

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas concluded the Great American Conference Men's Track & Field Championship with 98 points to finish third following Friday's action from the Mulerider Track & Field Complex.

Derrick Onyeador claimed the GAC's Triple Jump crown with a winning mark of 14.09m to earn SAU ten points. Garrett Hughes followed with a fourth-place finish in the event at 13.48m to earn All-GAC Second Team honors. Dontrelle Robinson placed sixth (12.93m) to pick up three points.

Jason Patrick grabbed a second-place finish in the discus with a throw of 50.62 giving the Muleriders eight points and him an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark. Ja'Kamron Zackery placed fourth (48.43m) to earn five points.

Southern Arkansas collected ten points in the shot put as Trevon Hill placed fourth (15.06m) and Ja'Kamron Zackery (15.06m) placed fifth. Traveon Scott recorded the final point in the event with an eighth-place finish (13.48m).

Brandon Sofi earned a fifth-place finish in the 110m Hurdles at 15.10. The result garnered him All-GAC Second Team honors and the Muleriders four points.

The Johnson twins, Bryson and Travon, combined for nine points in the 100m. Bryson Johnson placed fifth at 10.84 to pick up four points and Travon Johnson placed seventh at 10.87 to grab two more points. The pair combined for six points in the 200m with Bryson placing fourth (21.75) and Travon eighth (22.07). Dezmand Bryant's fifth place finish (21.77) added four points for the Muleriders.

Joseph Boyd claimed the final point-scoring placement in the javelin with an eighth-place result of 4.46m. Wesley Maxwell's eighth-place finish in the 1500m (3:59.80) earned the Muleriders a single point.

For the tournament, the Mulerider Men registered two individual title winners (White, Decathlon; Onyeador, TJ) and three additional All-GAC First Teamers (Onyeador – LJ; Patrick – DT; Zackery – HT). SAU added ten All-GAC Second Team honors. Pedro Cervantes, Blake Castor and Joseph Boyd were named GAC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes.

Individuals that placed in the top three of their events earn All-GAC First Team honors, while places fourth through sixth are named All-GAC Second Team. Southern Arkansas prepares for a last chance meet at a site to be determined. More information will be made available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
