SEARCY, Ark. – Mulerider Track and Field concluded action at the Bison Open on Saturday, April 6, as the teams collectively placed 80 competitors inside the top-25 of their respective competitions. Of those 80, Southern Arkansas earned 34 top ten finishes from its' athletes. The Muleriders faced competition from NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NJCAA, and NAIA.
The men were highlighted by sophomore
Jason Patrick who impressed many with his toss at the discus throw that earned him an NCAA DII provisional measurement of 169' 1" and placed him third in the event.
Southern Arkansas'
Diamond Brunn highlighted the women's efforts as she claimed victory in the long jump and defeated many from all NCAA divisions as well as the NJCAA and NAIA after leaping out for 19' 0.5".
Men
*Southern Arkansas' men accounted for 34 placements inside the top-25 of the meet while also recording 15 positions filled within the top ten of the events.
*Of the 45 runners in the 800-meter, freshman
Charles Patton clocked in a time of 1:59.07 (New PR) that placed him in eighth among the competition.
*
Joseph Boyd notched a top-ten position after raising the bar to 14' 1.75" at pole vault and clearing the height to then be spotted in ninth.
*
Derrick Onyeador and
Jeremy Jackson each saw the top ten of the long jump as Onyeador was responsible for a length of 21' 6" to place fifth and Jackson managed to place ninth with his distance of 20' 9.75.
*For the triple jump,
Dontrelle Robinson placed sixth for the event after he had recorded his distance of 40' 4.75".
*The field team for the Muleriders showed up and showed out once again leading off with
Ja'Kamron Zackery who placed second at shotput after he was responsible for a season-high 51' 0.75". Zackery was accompanied in the top ten with
Trevon Hill (5
th | 47' 6.5"),
Traveon Scott (7
th | 44' 9" | season-high), and
Bo Rogers (10
th | 42' 8" | PR).
*Including Patrick, three Muleriders claimed a top-ten spot at the discus throw as Zackery and Scott placed fifth and sixth. Zackery swung his discus for 151' 0" while Scott launched his for 138' 3".
*Once again, Zackery, Patrick, and Rogers managed to earn another top-ten position in a throwing event with this time at the hammer throw. Zackery notched a seventh-place finish with his toss of 155' 11"; Patrick placed ninth in the outing after slinging the weight 147' 10"; Rogers nabbed tenth due to his toss of 138' 1".
Women
*
Katelynn Hogg in the 200-meter dash notched a top-ten placement after having clocked in for 26.11 in the race.
*In the 5K,
Ava Zindler claimed seventh as hers with a personal-best time of 20:05.72
*
Devlin Rivera and
Tiffany Wiley both recorded a top-ten spot in the 100-meter hurdles as Rivera posted a time of 14.81 for a new personal-best that placed her fourth in the contest. Wiley's time came out at 15.23 as the sophomore finished the outing in seventh.
*
Ashlynn Lane was the lone Mulerider to run the 400-meter hurdles and showed an impressive performance the team's representative. Lane ran a season-best time of 1:11.04 that placed her in third place.
*A pair of Southern Arkansas athletes notched top-ten positions in the high jump as
Alexis Matlock and
Anaya Ervin did so with Matlock and Ervin each posting a height jumped of 5' 1.75".
*Both
Hailey Sutton and
Madison Fox claimed a top-ten spot at pole vault as the senior vaulted herself for 9' 6.25" to finish ninth and the freshman claimed tenth after scaling 9' 0.25".
*The senior
Issah Traylor notched a sixth-place leap in the triple jump after having glided out for 35' 10.75". Rivera ended up being just 6.25" shy of Traylor as she ended up at seventh due to her jump of 35' 4.5".
*Three members of the SAU Field team claimed a top-ten placement at shotput as
Irieyanna Wilson,
Keyonce Brown, and
Kailyn Thomas all did so. Wilson placed the highest among the three after throwing for 42' 1.5" to place fourth. Brown and Thomas claimed fifth (41' 9.75") and sixth (40' 11.75").
*Freshman
Kylie Pugh was the lone Mulerider to place in the top-ten at discus after she swung the discus for 130' 10" to claim seventh-place and set a new personal record.
*Thomas and Brown acquired another top-ten finish while at the hammer throw. Thomas placed the highest due to her throw of 171' 6" earning her third-place in the event. The Houston, Texas product landed the hammer just 15" shy of her personal-best mark. Brown claimed ninth in the event after the junior posted a new personal record throw of 144' 6".
*Ervin notched another top-ten spot after she set a new PR of 114' 4" in the javelin throw in which she placed eighth.
Following the conclusion of the Bison Open, the Muleriders now looks towards the long weekend they have in front of them at the Carl Knight Invitational located in Nacogdoches, Texas and is hosted by Stephen F. Austin.
