NORMAN, Okla. – Mulerider track and field is in full swing as they opened up the 2024 indoor meet season at the Southern Nazarene Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 20) on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. The Southern Arkansas men got things rolling after recording 12 athletes inside the top ten of their respective events against talent from Division I, Division II, and NAIA programs. Of those 12, three earned themselves a spot inside the top three of their events.
FIELD EVENTS
Ja'Kamron Zackery begins 2024 earning two top three positions in his two events after recording an indoor personal-best in shot put with a distance of 15.63 meters to earn second-place. The Magnolia, Ark. native earned his second top-three spot in the weight throw placing third for 16.36 meters.
Micheal Jones secured ninth-place among the weight throwers after tossing for 14.42 meters.
Trevon Hill made his way into the top-ten for shot put with a distance of 14.31 meters earning him seventh and just shy of a new indoor personal-best (14.32m).
TRACK EVENTS
Wesley Maxwell showed up and showed out in the mile run as he recorded a time of 4:29.80 to come out on top in the race. Maxwell accounted for another top-ten finish in the 800 meters after posting a new indoor personal-best at 2:03.75 for sixth-place.
Charles Patton made his way to the top-ten of the mile run as well after finishing fifth with a time of 4:36.71. The freshman also was responsible for another top-ten placing among the 800-meter runners where he placed tenth with a time of 2:05.48.
Brandon Sofi made his way into the 60-meter hurdles finals after coming in the top-ten for the prelims and semis. Sofi came out of the finals in sixth with his time of 8.38 for a new indoor PR. In the 60 meters,
Bryson Johnson turned his jets on to enter into the 60-meter finals after recording top-ten finishes in both the prelims and semis. Johnson placed fourth after he accounted for a time of 6.97.
Lou Hughes made his Mulerider debut placing tenth in the 200 meters after recording a time of 23.57. Fellow freshman,
Giovani Diaz earned a top-ten final after finishing the 3000 meters with a time of 9:29.15 to place eighth in the race.
NEXT MEET
Southern Arkansas' next meet is set for Saturday in Pittsburg, Kansas where the Muleriders will take to the road and head to Pittsburg State for the Wendy's/Pittsburg State Invitational for the second consecutive season. For more on this and other Mulerider athletic events, check out
