RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league's weekly football awards Monday. The list highlights Mulerider quarterback
OB Jones earning his second offensive player of the week in his senior campaign. The Lone Star native secured the title after his stellar performance against GAC and Natural State foe Henderson State.
Jones led the Muleriders to their first victory over the Reddies in Arkadelphia since 2004 while also becoming the first SAU quarterback to have multiple victories over HSU since Barret Renner (2015-2018) accomplished the feat. Jones also became the first Mulerider quarterback in the 21
st Century to defeat the Reddies in consecutive seasons.
The senior secured his title after he toted the rock 13 times resulting in 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns including an 80-yard scamper for a score. The scamper was the longest rush by a Mulerider since Michael Nunnery's 80-yard carry against Oklahoma Baptist in 2016 (Oct. 8). It was also the third-longest touchdown rush since 2000 in the program along with being the longest rush by a Mulerider quarterback since 2000. Jones completed nine of his 18 passing attempts for 132 yards and a single touchdown grab by
Kamden Perry that pushed SAU past the Reddies late in the fourth quarter. The score would eventually go down as the game-winner for the Muleriders to claim victory over Henderson State 35-34.
Jones continues to lead the Muleriders as they take their annual trip to the Murphy USA Classic in El Dorado, Arkansas to face-off with the #6/7 Harding Bisons Saturday, October 21 at Memorial Stadium. For more information, check out
