PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Southern Arkansas Men's Indoor Track & Field team made the journey to Pittsburg, Kansas for the Wendy's Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State. This trip marked the second visit to Pittsburg, Kansas and the third overall meet as an indoor T&F program.
The men left Kansas with sixteen top thirty finishes with six of those being within the top fifteen. The top performers from Saturday are freshmen Keith Smith and Daymien Smith. K. Smith placed fifth in the Triple Jump with his new PR of 47' 3.5". D. Smith placed fourteenth in the 60M Dash with his newly clocked PR at 6.85.
In the mile run, freshman Wesley Maxwell placed 13th after he performed well enough to set a new personal best of 4:21.69. Jorge Sanchez finished the 5000 meters in just over a quarter of an hour at 16:19.52.
Freshman Caleb Sterling, Sophomore Brandon Sofi, and Junior Cole Rappaport all had top thirty finishes in the 60M Hurdles. The freshman Sterling finished as the top Mulerider with an 18th place time of 8.48. Sophomore Sofi finished 21st with a PR of 8.57 while Rappaport placed 24th after recording a PR of 8.71.
In the field events, sophomore Joseph Boyd placed 11th in the pole vault as he vaulted himself to a new personal best of 13' 0.75".
For the long jump, sophomore Derrick Onyeador placed 18th after he hopped 23' 3.5" 8. As stated previously in the triple jump, K. Smith placed fifth (47' 3.5") while junior Chauncy Blake jumped to 18th with a distance of 42' 0.75" on his first attempt.
The shot put event had three top thirty finishes starting with freshman Travon Hill placing 19th after he threw for a personal best of 46' 8.75". Just three quarters of an inch behind Hill was the Sophomore thrower Ja'Kamron Zackery (46' 8") who placed 20th. Placing 25th in the event was sophomore Michael Jones a distance of 42' 2.25".
Three more competitors placed in the top thirty for the weight throw including Zackery who placed in the top fifteen at 13th with a throw of 51' 0.75". Junior Traveon Scott placed 17th with a distance of 50' 5.5" and M. Jones placed 23rd with a distance of 45' 3.5".
The Muleriders final indoor meet of the season will be a trip to Mobile, Alabama on February 5 to compete in the Jaguar Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama.
