MAGNOLIA, Ark. – It's time for the Great American Conference Championships and the Mulerider Men's and Women's Track and Field teams head to Shawnee, Oklahoma to compete for a conference crown.
The meet will take place over three days beginning Thursday, May 5 through Saturday, May 7. On Thursday, the decathlon and heptathlon athletes,
Connor White,
Josie Burke, and
Rebecca Miner, will be competing in half of their designated events. The Multis will be followed by the 10,000m at 8:00 pm.In the 10,000m, Robert Kraus and
Briston Rains are both set to compete in the late night competition.
On Friday, the rest of Multi events will be taking place at starting at 10 a.m. for the decathlon and 10:30 a.m. for the heptathlon. Following the Multis on Friday will be half of the field events and the track event preliminaries.
Saturday's action really kicks things off as the field teams will finish off their events for the meet and the track teams will compete from around 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Coming off an impressive performance at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational two weeks ago are a few well-known names like
Travon Johnson,
William Vickery,
Christian Mosley,
Kris Shumaker, Ja'Kamron Vickery, and many more.
Johnson earned a new personal record in the 200m dash alongside Vickery in the competition. Johnson clocked in a very solid time of 21.52 while Vickery earned himself a 21.97. Vickery set another PR in the 100m dash with his teammate Mosley doing the same. Vickery set a time of 10.57 while Mosley clocked in at 10.62. All three runners also contributed alongside
Kyeran Monroe in the 4x100m where they finished in third-place with a time of 41.11.
Hampton finished with a time of 57.84 and Westhoven a time of 57.97 in the 400m hurdles; both of which are new personal records for each runner.
Brandon Sofi placed third in the 110m hurdles after he crossed the line with a time of 15.23.
In Men's Throws, it starts with Zackery. The freshman can't seem to have a bad meet, and he had another solid performance at the NSU Invitational. Zackery came away with the highest spot for all Muleriders in the throwing events. He was fourth in discus (49.00m), fifth in hammer (47.80m), and fourth once more in the shot put (14.60m).
Carson Nichols set a new personal record of 45.00m which earned him eighth in the hammer competition.
Traveon Scott also set a new PR in hammer with his distance of 43.55m and
Micheal Jones added a new PR in the shot put after throwing a mark of 14.12m.
Kris Shumaker once again put on a fantastic showing in the javelin throw and was not far off of his program record mark as the tape measure read 56.35m.
The 4x400 team of Hampton,
Logan Rickey,
Dorian Pressley, and
Javis Williams placed first after they recorded a time of 3:27.04.
For the SAU Women,
Kamrin Hooks reset her personal/school record in the 200m dash to 24.62. Both
Sa'Moriya Walker and
Katelynn Hogg set new personal records in the 100m dash. Walker finished with a 12.15 and Hogg set her record at 12.45.
Devlin Rivera set a new PR in the 100m hurdles two weeks ago at 14.53 while
Kaliyah Thompson, Brittany Yarbro, and
Aaliyah Thompson all did the same in the 400m hurdles. K. Thompson recorded a 1:07.42, Yarbro clocked in at 1:09.61, and A. Thompson trimmed her PR to 1:10.08.
In the field events, there were plenty of new personal records to go around.
Haley Skoruppa tossed for 42.33m in the discus,
Nicole Morris earned a mark of 42.24m in the discus, and
Irieyanna Wilson set her discus PR to 40.90m.
Shardanay LaMark and
Keyonce Brown set new PRs together in the hammer throw with LaMark hitting a distance of 48.19m and Brown earning a new mark of 42.72m.
Tatahlavia Rosser recorded a new personal record in the long jump after she lunged forward for a distance of 5.55m and
Issah Traylor would do the same thing with a new personal record of 5.28m.
Raylynn Gibbs is looking to improve even more in the pole vault after she set a new personal record in the event. Her new PR is now 3.40m.
The 4x100 team that consisted of Hogg, Hooks,
Amayia Taylor, and Walker finished in third-place at the meet with their combined time of 47.59. The 4x400 team of Hooks, Manor, Hogg, and K. Thompson placed second with a collective time of 4:14.27.
With a conference title on the line this weekend, both teams are looking to capitalize on the opportunity to bring some hardware back to Magnolia.
