RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Following the conclusion of week two gridiron action around the Great American Conference, the league announced its weekly award winners and among those honored was Southern Arkansas true freshman return specialist
Demarcus Williams who earned the first weekly accolade of his career as he was named the GAC Special Teams Player of the Week after an impressive showing as a kickoff returner in the Muleriders' 42-27 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
A native of Marshall, Texas, Williams totaled 124 return yards in four kickoff return attempts which was highlighted by an electrifying 62-yard scamper that set the Muleriders up on the SWOSU side of the field to start the second half.
He added returns of 17, 20 and 25 yards to his stat ledger and Southern Arkansas never started a drive south of their own 27-yard line when Williams returned on Saturday.
Williams is the first Mulerider to earn GAC STPOW plaudits since Week 2 of the 2019 season when current teammate and place kicker
Austin Wilkerson claimed the honor on September 16.
