Twice as Nice: Floyd earns second CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honor

Southern Arkansas standout becomes first to earn two national academic honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its Academic All-America teams late last week and among the NCAA Division II football student-athletes honored was Southern Arkansas defensive back Brock Floyd. The Frisco, Texas, native carried a 3.77 GPA in Business Administration and is the lone player from the Great American Conference to earn a first-team selection.

Floyd becomes the first player in program history to twice be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American which comes six months after the Texan became Mulerider Football's first CoSIDA AAA First Team honoree. In July, Floyd became the third Mulerider to lay claim to Academic All-America status joining Kile Pletcher (WR) in 2017 and Jordan White (P) in 2018; both of which earned second team recognition.

An intimidating fixture in the Mulerider secondary for years, Floyd's final season in Magnolia was yet again a productive one. A D2CCA All-Super Region 3 Second Team and All-GAC First team selection following the 2021 campaign, Floyd led the Muleriders in solo tackles with 50 and tied for the team-lead in total stops with 79. The hard-hitting safety owned a robust statistical ledger this past fall as he logged three tackles for loss totaling 11 yards which included one sack. He picked off two passes for 45 yards, broke up one more, recorded a QB hurry, forced a fumble and recovered two more; one of which he housed from 60 yards out in SAU's Murphy USA Class win over Arkansas Tech. For his efforts in the win over ATU, he was named the GAC's Defensive Player of the Week.

He was the only Mulerider to record a sack, an interception, force a fumble and recover a fumble this season. For his career, Floyd recorded 209 total tackles, a dozen for loss with one sack and added six fumble recoveries and seven interceptions. He broke up nine passes and found the endzone three times, while totaling 203 all-purpose yards.

Floyd served as SAU Football's representative for the department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), was a member of SAU's inaugural induction class of Chi Alpha Sigma and a member of the National Society of Leadership & Success.
