Southern Arkansas Track and Field produces quality showing at competitive Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southern Arkansas men's and women's track and field programs both produce quality performances during the two-day Samford Invitational inside the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday and Saturday.
                        
For the Lady Muleriders, they garnered 18 top-50 finishes including a third-place finish by Virginia Ney in the women's 5000-meter run. The Muleriders registered 20 top-50 finishes that saw Chris Wallace (15:13.81) and Cody Fox (15:27.39) garner top-ten finishes in the 5000 meter run placing 5th and 7th, respectively.
 
Ney's top-three 5000-meter finish came at a quick 18:21.63, while teammate Ashlynne Foley followed with a twelfth-place finish at 19:09.92. Kenisha Bryant came in 33rd place (26.12) in the women's 200 meter dash and right behind her was Erin Goree who placed 35th with a time of 26.20. Bryant also recorded a top-35 finish in the women's 400 meter, by placing 32nd at 59.21.
 
In the women's one-mile run, Claudia Charles placed 33rd with a time of 5:41.90, while Lillianna Castaneda finished 39th at 5:58.21. Jada Fricks (29th), Destiny McGaffey (32nd) and Mahalia Soap (36th) all captured sub 12:03 times in the women's 3000 meter.
 
The women's long jump event saw Justice Reliford notch a mark of 5.20 meters, earning a 20th-place finish, while Chioma Akolam produced a shot put distance of 10.42 meters in 27th-place. Erica Fuller placed 30th in the shot put with a mark of 9.69 meters.
 
Karonce Higgins placed 23rd (7.18) in the men's 60 meter dash as well as 39th (22.71) in a competitive men's 200 meter dash. Quincy Flowers placed 35th (7.29) in the men's 60 meter dash and recorded a 43rd-place finish (22.86) in the 200 meter.
 
Ismael Gonzalez finished 25th in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.08, while Jose Guevara placed 15th in the one-mile event at 4:23.87. Bradyn Gower and Lane Alexander produced sub-9:20 times in the men's 3000-meter placing 33rd and 34th respectively.
 
Aaron Linnear garnered a mark of 5.81 in the men's long jump, while Gerald Pitts tossed 11.91 meters in the men's shot put to place 19th.
