Former SAU football All-America Don Unamba to make CFL debut on Thursday

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Don Unamba, a former four-year starter and All-America defensive back for the Southern Arkansas football team, will continue to play beyond SAU as he is set to make his professional football debut with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL) on Thursday, June 26.

Unamba, a native of Hurst, Texas, signed with the Blue Bombers as a free agent on April 2, 2014 but officially made their 2014 roster on June 20 after the club announced their final training camp cuts in advance of the upcoming CFL season.

While this will be Unamba's first run in the CFL, it is not his first experience in professional football.

Following the conclusion of his final and All-America season as a Mulerider in 2012, Unamba went undrafted, but signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League (NFL) shortly after the 2013 NFL Draft. After a release from the Rams that June, Unamba signed and entered training camp with the Buffalo Bills before being among the team's final roster cuts in August.

With the CFL regular season set to begin later this week, Unamba will be the second former Mulerider football player on an active CFL roster as he will join former All-America wide receiver Nik Lewis, who is currently playing for the Calgary Stampede.
