MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas women's cross country team opened their 2015 campaign with a second-place finish among a 10-team field at the Lady Muleriders' home event, the Lois Davis Invitational on Friday evening.
The Lady Muleriders were edged out by Texas A&M-Commerce, who took the team title, but SAU was able to finish above NCAA Division I Little Rock, who featured the individual champion in Noora Wallenius. Wallenius would finish nearly a full minute before the second-place individual as Wallenius cross the finish line at a time of 18:07.
The top finisher for the Lady Muleriders was senior runner
Virginia Ney as she placed third overall with a time of 19:19. Just behind Ney was sophomore
Abbey Foreman with a time of 19:25 as Foreman finished fourth overall. Next for SAU was
Ashlynne Foley with an eighth-place finish and a time of 20:09.
Rounding out scoring for the Lady Muleriders were freshman
Tayln Billins and senior
Mahalia Soap. Billins would finish 16th overall with a time of 21:05 and Soap would register a 22nd overall finish and a time of 22:02.
The Lady Muleriders will now prepare of the Southern Stampede hosted by Missouri Southern on Saturday, September 19.
