Mulerider Track & Field set for two-site weekend

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Mulerider Track and Field takes off for another weekend of competition, as Head Coach James Bowlin's team will be split into two groups at two different locations.

One unit will head north to Maryville, Missouri, for the Bearcat Invite hosted by Northwest Missouri State University (Feb. 6 -7). For Southern Arkansas, the Muleriders will compete in just the multis, as they will travel Anaya Ervin, Kendal Fellegy, Garrett Hughes, Kian McGhee, and Cameron Sliger to compete.

Multi events for the Bearcat Invite are set to begin with the women's Pentathlon 60m hurdles at 12:00 PM on Friday (Feb. 6). The men will soon follow with their Heptathlon 60m dash. The Pentathlon is set to be wrapped up by the end of the day on Friday, while the Heptathlon is scheduled to wrap up five of the seven events on Friday and conclude competition on Saturday.

The second group will head south to Houston, Texas, for the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Classic hosted by FasTrak Athletix and will be held at the University of Houston. This group will consist of nearly everyone else with individual events, as the Mulerider Women will travel 21 competitors and the Mulerider Men 29.

Last weekend saw SAU begin its 2026 competition at the McNeese Indoor Meet, which specifically saw tremendous first-place performances by senior Diamond Brunn and Keith Smith. For Brunn, the Killeen, Texas native accounted for a 5.69m (18' 8") leap in the women's long jump to outjump multiple NCAA Division I foes in the contest. For Smith, the Jefferson, Texas local earned first place in the men's triple jump. Smith did so by acquiring the tenth-furthest distance out of all NCAA DII Indoor performances up to this point in the season, which came out to be a jump up 15.12m (49' 7.25").

Southern Arkansas will look to capitalize on its stellar performances last weekend, in which the Mulerider Women tallied up nine top-ten showings and the Men recorded ten top-five outings.
