MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Mulerider Track and Field is set for another indoor meet at Pittsburg, Kansas, for the 11
th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic. The meet is scheduled to take place over two days, February 13-14. For the meet, Southern Arkansas will be traveling 42 Muleriders for the weekend in the Sunflower State.
The Pitt State meet will begin at 2:00 PM on Friday (Feb. 13) with the Men's Weight Throw, Men's High Jump, and Women's Pole Vault. Track events will take place at 2:50 with the Men's 60m Hurdles Preliminary round. Women's track events will get rolling right after the Men's 60m Hurdle Prelim, with the Women's 60m Hurdles Preliminary round.
Saturday's (Feb. 14) events will get started with the Men's Shot Put, Men's Triple Jump, and the Men's 3000m run at noon. Women's field events for Saturday will begin at 1:00 PM, with the Women's High Jump. For Women's track, the unit will begin the 14
th at 12:25 PM, with the 3000m run.
The Mulerider Women saw a few impressive outings last weekend, as
Anaya Ervin wrapped up the Pentathlon at the Bearcat Invite with 3,079 total points, placing her ninth in the Multi. With a solid run in the 60m dash last weekend,
Kamryn Floyd, as the junior, accounted for a finishing time of 7.73 for a fifth-place finish. Another Mulerider with a stellar outing last weekend was
Diamond Brunn, who placed second in the long jump, setting a new indoor program record of 5.82m (19' 1.25").
For the Men, Southern Arkansas saw some solid showings as well, as
Garrett Hughes recorded a new indoor program record for the Heptathlon at the Bearcat Invite, with the junior recording a final score of 4,199 points. The point total assisted the Texan to finish fourth in the Heptathlon. Accounting for yet another first-place finish in the triple jump was
Keith Smith, as the senior went on to record a mark of 14.92m (48' 11.5") to show his consistency during the season. The Blue and Gold had another first-place finish last weekend, with freshman
Darius James winning the 60m finals with a time of 6.86. James not only had himself a first-place finish, but also had himself an indoor record-breaking performance, as he went on to set a record in the 200m with his time of 22.09m. The time had the freshman place eighth in the event.
