MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Mulerider Cross Country is set to host the 14
th Lois Davis Invitational after a one-year hiatus from the meet. Second-year head coach
James Bowlin preps for his first LDI in his career at Southern Arkansas University as he and his Muleriders also get ready for upcoming meets in the coming weeks.
The Blue and Gold have had their time to practice for the home meet, as the unit has yet to run since their season opener at the Bob Gravett Invitational hosted by Ouachita Baptist University back on September 6. Both the men and women saw successful performances at the season opener, which they both look to expand on with the race in their own backyard.
Mulerider Men
In Arkadelphia, Arkansas, the men finished second out of four, with
Wesley Maxwell and
Isaac Gass leading the team. In the outing, Maxwell placed fourth out of 68 runners with a performance that set a record for the senior in a cross country 5k (15:19.8). Gass trailed, but not by much, as the native of Jessieville, Arkansas finished sixth and was just nine seconds behind Maxwell at 15:28.8.
In the last Lois Davis Invite, the Muleriders won the 13
th running of the meet by edging Ouachita Baptist 25-35. Multiple members of the men's team make their return to the meet since last participating in it. Those include
Brandon Escobar,
Charles Patton, and
Joseph Uc. While Maxwell was a part of the team at the time, the Lone Star native did not participate in the race due to an injury.
Mulerider Women
Ava Zindler had quite the season opener as the lone Mulerider Women's senior finished the Bob Gravett Invitational in 11
th out of 84 competitors. Zindler competed with herself in the 5k, with the Tomball, Texas native attempting to surpass her old cross country 5k record of 18:45.55. Zindler came up just shy and finished the meet with a time of 18:50.73.
Zindler did not take part in the 13
th Annual Lois Davis Invitational, but a pair of Mulerider Women who reside on the 2025 roster did, as
Cantley Gosdin and
Rachel Solano prep to run in their second Lois Davis Invitational. In their last running of the meet, Solano wrapped up her run in third place after recording a time of 12:59.6, and Gosdin finished in eighth place with her time of 13:42.8.
Both races are set to start and finish near the Southern Arkansas University intramural fields near the sand volleyball courts. The Mulerider Women's 5k is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM, with the Men's 8k being set to begin at 7:00 PM.
