FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Mulerider Women's Tennis Team captured the 2025 Great American Conference Tournament title with a 4-2 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma, marking their first championship win since 2019.
Southern Arkansas faced early adversity in doubles play, dropping the doubles point despite a dominant 6-0 victory at line two by Amelie Gindl and Maria Fiacan. Losses on lines one and three gave Southeastern the opening advantage.
The Muleriders responded strongly in singles with Fiacan, the GAC Newcomer of the Year and an All-GAC First Team honoree, earning the team's first singles point with a 6-3, 7-5 win on court three, cutting the deficit to 1-2. Fellow All-GAC First Team selection Josie Holderbach followed with a 7-5, 6-3 win at line two to tie the match at 2-2.
All-GAC Second Team honoree Ifigeneia Kafka then delivered a 6-3, 7-5 victory at line four, putting Southern Arkansas within one point of the title.
The clinch came from GAC Player of the Year and All-GAC First Team standout Gindl, who fought through a tough three-set match at the top spot. Her 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win secured the championship for the Muleriders.
Southern Arkansas now turns their attention to the NCAA Central Region Championship. The Muleriders will find out their first-round opponent during the NCAA selection show tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
