NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Mulerider Track and Field wrapped up their trip to the Lone Star State as the group took care of business at the Carl Kight Multis and Invitational hosted by Stephen F. Austin University (Apr. 10-12) in record-breaking fashion.
At the meet, Coach James Bowlin's squad broke four program records, with new records set for each team (one for the Men and three for the Women).
Men's Track & Field
The Mulerider Men were highlighted by their very long-distance runner
Enrico Tapia as the freshman accounted for a first-place finish in the 10,000 meters after crossing the finish line with a time of 31:43.71, which broke an eight-year record held by Doug Palmer (2017 | 31:54.89). Palmer's record was broken twice in the race as
Lyndon Orr finished with a time of 31:54.08, placed second for the event, and now has the second-fastest 10,000-meter time in program history.
Staying with long-distance,
Isaac Gass showed out in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the Jessieville, Arkansas native placed third in the event and finished with a PR time of 9:24.72.
Another winner of their event was freshman jumper JaKeylon Jones as the Prescott, Arkansas native recorded a PR distance of 7.29m (23' 11") with no wind assistance in the long jump. In second place was
Derrick Onyeador with a jump of 7.10m (23' 3.5") and in fourth was
Keith Smith with his leap of 6.93m (22' 9").
Smith also made the podium for the triple jump after accounting for a distance of 14.86m (48' 9") and earned a NCAA DII provisional mark. Onyeador also performed well in the event in fifth place with a mark of 14.06m (46' 1.5").
Jason Patrick in the discus performed incredibly well with his first-place mark of 50.57m (165' 11") while also earning a provisional mark. Three other Muleriders cracked the top five of the event with
Rocco Patrick (3
rd | 44.88m | 147' 3"),
Jonovan Gamble (4
th | 44.86m | 147' 2"), and
Bo Rogers (5
th | 44.75m | 146' 10") all performing well.
Patrick, while being bested by NCAA DI Texas Southern's Jalen Walker, placed second in the hammer throw and set a new personal best as the Prescott, Arkansas native acquired the PR with a 54.12m (177' 7") throw and was just under a foot shy of Sinclair Pitts record from 2019 (178' 6").
Korbin McAuliffe stood out in the javelin throw as the athlete threw for 50.10m (164' 4") and placed third in the event.
Women's Track & Field
The Mulerider Women saw three program records set while in Nacogdoches as
Diamond Brunn,
Ambree Collinsworth, and
Irieyanna Wilson all set new standards in their events over the meet.
Brunn in the long jump is the perfect match as the reigning Great American Conference champion broke her own record of 5.92m (19' 5.25") with a provision mark of 6.10m (20' 0.25"). The junior claimed first in the event as she out-jumped 17 other competitors.
Also winning the javelin throw and setting a new program record was
Ambree Collinsworth as the freshman threw for 41.42m (135' 11") breaking a six-year-old record.
The final record broken for the Mulerider Women came off the hands of
Irieyanna Wilson as the veteran thrower set a new shot put record of 13.92m (45' 8") and earned a provisional mark in the process. Wilson's record-breaking performance earned her second place in the event only behind DI Prairie View A&M's Keonna Otis.
Placing fourth in the discus throw is one of the GAC's top discus throwers
Kailyn Thomas as the senior heaved for 41.87m (146' 7"). Thomas was also stellar in the hammer throw after tossing for 50.77m (166' 7") and finishing in third place for the event.

Southern Arkansas' next bit of competition is back home as the Muleriders are set for the annual Dan Veach Invitational set for April 19
th this coming Saturday with action taking place throughout the day.
