MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Southern Arkansas Indoor Track and Field team is hitting the road once again this weekend, this time heading to Houston for the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Challenge. The competition will be held at the Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus.
The day begins with field events at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 8), featuring the weight throw and high jump. The long jump follows at noon, with the shot put and pole vault starting at 12:30 p.m. The triple jump kicks off at 1:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the running events begin at noon, starting with the mile.
Last weekend's competition featured standout performances across multiple events. Freshman Landry Leigh delivered an impressive showing in the Men's Pole Vault, securing a 2nd-place finish with a clearance of 4.65m. Garrett Hughes set a new indoor personal best in the Men's 1000-meter Heptathlon, clocking in at 2:52.29 to earn 3rd place.
Diamond Brunn continued her strong season, recording a new indoor personal best in the Women's Long Jump with a leap of 5.68m, finishing 4th. Keith Smith also impressed in the Triple Jump, landing a 5th-place finish with a mark of 14.42m.
Irieyanna Wilson placed 4th in the Shot Put with a throw of 13.99m. Her standout performance put her into the nation's top 20 list, ranking 19th overall—a position that puts her in contention for a potential qualification for the National Championships in Indianapolis, March 13-15, 2025.
