ADA, Okla. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (6-3 GAC) fell to the East Central University Tigers (6-3 GAC) in Ada, Oklahoma by a final score of 22-44.
After the Tigers won the opening coin toss, ECU began the outing on offense. The Mulerider defense forced an early interception from Tiger quarterback Sergio Kennedy to swing momentum to the visitors. The SAU offense took the field and stalled out early, but
Jay Todd Baker was able to pin the Tigers at their own one-yard line. Thanks to a couple of big plays for ECU, the Tigers broke the ice first and scored, but failed to convert the two-point conversion as they took a 6-0 lead.
The Muleriders then responded with a touchdown of their own, as they drove down the field and
Katrevion Thomas punched in a score from two yards out, as the Muleriders took the lead 7-6 with 5:26 to go in the first quarter. Both defenses then traded stops, and the Tigers took the field again to end the first. ECU then scored going up 13-7 with just over 11 minutes left in the second quarter. The Tigers then scored a couple more times before half time as the Mulerider offense struggled and ECU took a 23-7 lead into half time.
The Muleriders then cut into the deficit late in the third quarter. After a fake punt pass from Ethan Reiger to
Hunter Hewitt extended the drive for the Muleriders. Another trick play helped the Blue and Gold cut into the lead, as
Arkez Gomez took the handoff and threw a touchdown pass to
Hezekiah Harris, 30-14 ECU.
ECU went on to score again extending their lead 37-14 with 14:50 to go in the fourth quarter. The Muleriders then scored once more, as
Hezekiah Harris connected with Deandra Burns over the middle for a 22-yard touchdown pass. The Blue and Gold also converted the two-point attempt, as Harris found
Jace Taylor in the back of the endzone for a successful attempt, 37-22 ECU. After SAU nearly recovered an onside kick, the Tiger offense took the field again and scored a final time to cap off the outing in Ada.
