Muleriders fall to Tigers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The (#25/22) Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (6-2 GAC) fell to the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers (5-3 GAC) by a final score of 42-14 on a chilly and rainy day in Arkadelphia.

The Muleriders received the opening kickoff of the game and proceeded to drive down the field thanks in part to a big 61-yard run from Arkez Gomez setting the Muleriders up at the Ouachita three-yard line. Hezekiah Harris then capped off the drive with a rushing touchdown from one yard out giving SAU an early 7-0 lead.

The Tigers then took the field and drove down the field putting up a touchdown of their own and tying the game at 7-7 with 9:54 to go in the first quarter. The ensuing drive for the Muleriders was stalled as SAU was forced to punt. Jay Todd Baker booted a beautiful ball that was muffed by the Tigers and SAU fell on the ball to recover it and give the offense a second chance to retake the lead. Ouachita managed to stop the Muleriders once again and went on to score again, 14-7.

The Tigers went down for another score with 11:30 to go in the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead. Despite the offensive woes, the Muleriders defense stood tall for the rest of the first half including forcing and recovering a fumble. The Tigers led 21-7 at the half.

The Tigers extended their lead in the second half with three touchdowns to extend the lead out to 42-7 with 11:57 to go in the game. The offensive woes continued for SAU for the second half. The Muleriders did get on the board again as Tucker Brewster blocked and recovered a punt in the endzone to cut into the lead, 42-14 Ouachita.

Despite the losing effort, Ken Ellison had a good game on defense with 11 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and a pass breakup.
