MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Mulerider Cross Country is set to hit the course again this weekend as Southern Arkansas travels north to compete in the prestigious Chile Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas. Second-year head coach
James Bowlin leads his squad into one of the biggest stages of the fall after both the men and women produced solid results in their last outing at the 14th Lois Davis Invitational in Magnolia.
Both groups will make their way to the Chile Pepper Festival for the first time since 2023. In those races, the Mulerider Women finished 7
th amongst 23 groups and the Mulerider Men finished 7
th amongst 31 teams.
Mulerider Women
During the Lois Davis Invitational, the women opened the evening with a 5,000-meter race that featured 64 competitors. Southern Arkansas turned in a solid performance, securing third place in the team standings. Senior
Ava Zindler once again paced the Mulerider Women, crossing the line in 11th overall with a time of 19:59.91.
Mulerider Men
During the Lois Davis Invitational, the men ran an 8,000-meter race that featured 57 finishers. The Muleriders put together a strong outing, staying tightly grouped for much of the competition and placing second as a unit. Four Muleriders finished consecutively in 6th through 9th place, three crossed in 15th through 17th, and another trio placed 31st through 33rd. Senior
Wesley Maxwell led the way for Southern Arkansas, claiming second place overall. The Magnolia, Texas native set the pace for much of the race before being edged by ULM's Chase Gunn, ultimately finishing 14 seconds back with a time of 25:53.8.
