SAU Track and Field Wraps Up 2025 Indoor Season Opener at Rumble in the Jungle

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Rumble in the Jungle meet, hosted by Pittsburg State University, marked the first meet of the 2025 indoor season for the Mulerider Men's and Women's Track and Field teams. The Mulerider Women tied for 9th place with 18 points, while the men placed 12th, earning 13 points. 

Women's Highlights
200m Dash: Jordan Collins secured 7th place with a time of 25.42 seconds, showcasing her speed in a competitive field.
High Jump: Ashlynn Dickey cleared 1.53m, earning 10th place in a tightly contested event.
Long Jump: Diamond Brunn delivered a standout performance, claiming 1st place with a jump of 5.43m, a key contribution to the team's overall score.
Shot Put: Kailyn Thomas placed 11th with a throw of 12.14m, demonstrating solid technique and strength.
Weight Throw: Kailyn Thomas returned to the podium with a 3rd-place finish, throwing 16.06m. Keyonce Brown also performed well, finishing 10th with a throw of 14.86m.

Men's Highlights
4x400m Relay: The team of Anthony AJ Hicks Jaxon, Plunkett, Jayquan Dickerson, and Landry Leigh clocked a time of 3:25.17, placing 14th.
Long Jump: Derrick Onyeador landed in 7th place with a jump of 6.82m, while Christian Johnson finished 13th with a mark of 6.63m.
Triple Jump: Keith Smith shone in this event, earning 2nd place with a leap of 14.74m, a personal best. Onyeador followed with a 7th-place finish (13.71m), Chad Blake took 8th (13.62m), and Dontrelle Robinson placed 13th (12.58m).
Weight Throw: Jason Patrick achieved a 9th-place finish with a throw of 15.94m, contributing to the team's overall effort.

The Mulerider Women excelled in the jumps and throws, highlighted by Brunn's first-place finish in the long jump and Thomas's podium finish in the weight throw. On the men's side, Smith's silver-medal performance in the triple jump and Onyeador's consistency in both the long and triple jumps were key takeaways. Southern Arkansas Track and Field is back in action next weekend as they are traveling to Topeka, Kansas for the Washburn Open & Multis.
