MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Mulerider Men's Golf kicked off their season at the Northeastern Men's Classic in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the beginning of this week. Head Coach
Neriah Brown and his Muleriders started off the fall campaign by finishing in third-place as a team out of 17 competing teams and saw all the Mulerider Men finish within the top 65 out of the 94-player field.
Southern Arkansas secured the third-place finish after recording a total of 851 (-1) strokes over the par-71 course.
Leading the group of Muleriders was freshman
Blane Burk as he finished tied for 12th in his first tournament competing for the Blue & Gold. Burk posted a total of 211 (-2) over the three rounds coming off an impressive start in round one where he recorded a three-under-par (68). During the second round, Burk posted a score of 73 (+2) and then improved during the final round to record a score of one-under-par (70). Burk hit 1 eagle, 12 birdies and shot par 30 times over the two-day tournament.
One stroke behind Burk was junior
Luke Cote, who delivered an impressive performance to place second-highest for the Muleriders and secured a 15th-place finish. Cote recorded rounds of 73-68-71 for a three-round total of 212 finishing one-under-par. Cote finished with 10 birdies and recorded a team-best 37 pars.
Senior
Logan McDonald started off with an impressive four-under-par (67), the lowest round posted by any of the Muleriders during the tournament. After this impressive start to the tournament, McDonald followed with solid rounds of 72 and 76, wrapping up with a three-round total of 215 (+2). McDonald delivered 1 eagle and 9 birdies and finished T19.
Like McDonald's 215 (+2), junior
Will Blake demonstrated solid rounds throughout the event recording rounds of 70-72-73 and also placing T19. He recorded a total of 12 birdies and went even 29 times. Blake's consistency allowed him to stay near the top of the leader board alongside McDonald.
Senior
Alex Gerrard posted rounds of 73-72-76, which earned him a tie for 52nd-place and a total of 221 (+8). Gerrard hit 1 eagle and 6 birdies spread across the three rounds.
Sophomore
Collin Spangler ended the tournament tied for 64th with a stroke count of 224 (+11). Spangler opened up the first round by recording a score of 77 (+6) and saw an improvement by 5 strokes in round two where he hit 72 (+1), before closing the tournament with a 75 (+4).
The Mulerider Men's Golf return to action next week as they compete in the Shang Ri la Invitational in Monkey Island, Oklahoma on Monday (Sep 23) and Tuesday (Sep 24).
