Southern Arkansas Muleriders Host Delta State in Friday Evening Showdown

Muleriders continue home slate with GSC's Lady Statesmen

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders are welcoming the Statesmen of Delta State inside the W.T. Watson Athletic Center for a 5:00 PM tip-off on Friday (Nov. 22).

The game will mark the first meeting between the Muleriders and Statesmen since December 2017, when Delta State narrowly edged out SAU 53-49.

The Muleriders are looking to stay hot adding to their 4-0 overall record for this season. The offense has been fueled by Tequaza Chambers, who is leading the team in scoring with 14.3 points per game. Chambers has been a consistent deep threat, shooting an impressive 66.7% from three-point range, and has recorded a perfect 100% on her free-throw shooting.

Junior Marlee Bright serves as the team's do-it-all leader as she is averaging 7.3 assists while adding 4.8 steals per game on the defense. Bright's offensive efficiency lands on shooting 73.1% from the field. Crystal Ortiz leads the team in rebounds with 7.0 rebounds per game and complementing her is Elena Lijo-Rodriguez, a defensive anchor averaging 2.5 blocks per game.

Delta State (2-2 overall)
The Lady Statesmen arrive in Magnolia with a 2-2 record in their 2024-25 season, after dropping their last two games against Great American Conference opponents. After a high-scoring shootout loss to Henderson State (78-83), the Lady Statesmen struggled offensively in a 48-58 defeat against Arkansas Tech.

Senior Grace Watson is leading the Lady Statesmen in points per game averaging 11.0 per game. Watson is also the team leader in rebounds per game with 12.5. Martyna Czesik is leading the Lady Statesmen in assists with an average of 2.0 per game.

The Lady Statesmen could purchase property at the charity stripe as they lead the Gulf South Conference in free throw attempts per game averaging 24.25 and ranking 20th nationally. They haven't come up empty much in at the line either as they rank second in the league for free throws made per game with 17.75 and rank 17th nationally. Under the basket, Delta State has rebounded the ball well thus far as the group is third in the GSC for defensive rebounds per game (28.0), offensive rebounds per game (13.5), and rebounds per game (41.5).

The tip-off is set for 5:00 PM on Friday (Nov. 22) inside of the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.
