Box Score WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma. — Mulerider Football got back on track Saturday evening at Southwestern Oklahoma State as the Blue and Gold dominated on the road against the Bulldogs for their final trip to the Sooner State. SAU's seventh victory of the season (7-2) ended in a final score of 48-14 after having a two-hour delayed start due to lightning in the area.
Leading the way for the Muleriders offense was once again Judd Barton as the quarterback completed 59.1% of his passing attempts (26-44) that produced 374 yards and three scores. Also with a pass for the contest was the punter Andrew Schreiner for a 39-yard dot to defensive end Hunter Hewitt on a faked punt. Twelve members of the Blue and Gold brought in a reception as Rasheed Green led that category with six catches for 110 yards (18.3 per) and one touchdown. Also receiving a touchdown was Matthew Whitten and Jakarion Lockett as Whitten brought in five receptions for 78 yards and one TD. Lockett acquired one reception for 21 yards that ended up in the end zone.
Three Muleriders carried the rock out of the backfield for 38 carries, 112 yards, and two ground scores. Jariq Scales ended up with the most net yards as the all-time leader of many rushing categories had 51 yards on 12 rushes and found himself in the end zone once. Kadyn Roach and Barton were also ball carriers for SAU as Roach tallied 16 carries for 38 yards and Barton produced 23 yards on 10 keepers with one touchdown, making it four total for the junior quarterback.
Five different members of the Southern Arkansas front seven recorded at least half a sack as Gavin Roe and Hunter Hewitt tied for the most in the contest with 1.5 each.
Leading the tackling department was also Hewitt as he recorded seven total tackles with three solos and four assists. Fellow defensive end Dawson Scott was just behind Hewitt as the Mexia, Texas native produced six total tackles with two solos and four assists.
The Muleriders special teams played their own key part in the outing. The special teams set the tone quick as Melvin Smith Jr. returned the opening kickoff 99 yards to the house to put six on the board just 15 seconds into the game. Daniel Gauna had himself a solid game kicking as he was 6-for-6 for point after attempts and 2-for-3 kicking field goals. Gauna set a new personal career record as he nailed a 48-yard field goal to go up 24-7 in the second.
Southern Arkansas is back in Magnolia for the home finale as the Muleriders look to send off their seniors with a bang facing Northwestern Oklahoma State for senior day and Military Appreciation/Heroes Day.
