Mulerider Cross Country set to compete at Mississippi College Season Opener

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Friday, September 1st marks the next chapter for Mulerider Cross Country as 14th year Head Coach Tim Servis and his Muleriders travel to Clinton, Mississippi to compete in the Mississippi College Season Opener.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Entering 2023 sixth in the GAC preseason coaches poll, Servis returns experience in senior Alyzah McGlasson while having additional leaders in juniors Logan Warren and Victoria Cheney. These three are no strangers to Clinton, Mississippi as they return for the first time since 2021. In 2021, Warren placed tenth, McGlasson placed 38th, and Cheney finished 78th as SAU placed third of 19.

Entering Clinton, Mississippi for the first time as Muleriders are sophomores J'aime Brown and Angel Redmond. Looking to acquire their first taste of college-level competition are freshmen Cantley Gosdin and Rachel Solano.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The men enter Clinton, Mississippi as the fifth-place team in the GAC preseason coaches poll with a youthful group. Servis brings in nine runners for "The Opener" with five freshmen looking to gain collegiate experience.

The former Rob Kraus-led Muleriders are now looking towards junior Pedro Cervantes, who is the only racer that competed at Mississippi College in 2021. As a freshman, Cervantes finished 64th and the team finished sixth of 22. He now looks to show improvement over the last two years as a junior.

Now in 2023, Cervantes travels as the sole upperclassmen to compete in Clinton, but will be accompanied with sophomores Joseph Garay, Isaac Gass, and Wesley Maxwell and freshmen Giovani Diaz, Joe Duirden, Brandon Escobar, Charles Patton, and Joseph Uc.

Friday's meet will take place at the Choctaw Trails in Clinton Mississippi as both men and women teams will be competing in a 5k with the men scheduled to take off at 6:00 PM and the women at 6:45 PM. The Mississippi College Season Opener will host 18 other squads including  six division one programs in Mississippi State, Mississippi Valley, Louisiana-Monroe, Jackson State, Southern Mississippi, and Grambling.
