HUMBLE, Texas – The Mulerider Men's Golf squad finished 34 strokes over par at the Houston Classic following a three-round effort at the Golf Club of Houston. Southern Arkansas finished play in 8th place with a final round score of 305. The Muleriders finished one stroke behind conference rival Harding and two strokes behind Henderson State.
Four Mulerider golfers finished in the top-40 of the competitive 95-golfer field. Southern Arkansas recorded the fourth most pars in the competition with 165 and finished in the top half with their +1 scoring at par 5s and +52 at par 4s.
Juniors Caleb Miller and Connor Harrington shot the best for the Muleriders on the final day, recording rounds of 75, three strokes over par. Harrington recorded a three-round total of 224 to finish tied for 26th place while Miller shot 226 on the tournament to finish in 34th place. The golfers shared the same first and third round score while Harrington shot 75 in round two and Miller shot a 77. Miller shot -2 at par 5 scoring opportunities and recorded 34 pars and six birdies alongside Harrington. On top of his birdies, Harrington shot for par 35 times and recorded the best par 5 results of any Mulerider, shooting -3 to average 4.75.
Sophomore Logan McDonald began the tournament with first day rounds of 69 and 73, but shot a 78 in the third round to drop into 14th place alongside two other golfers. He shot for par at 12 holes to record the sixth most pars in the competition with 36 between the three rounds. He finished the tournament shooting -1 at par 5s, +1 at par 3s and finished in the top-20 with an average 4.13 at par 4s.
Freshman Luke Cote recorded a third-round score of 77 to post a tournament total of 228. He recorded back to back birdies on holes 11 and 12 after birdying the eighth hole. He shot for par on half of the holes in the final round of play and finished tied for 37th place. Cote shot -1 at par 5s and recorded a total 36 pars. Sophomore Alex Gerrard shot an 87 in round three to finish out the tournament with a 251 tournament total and finished tied for 92nd.
