HUMBLE, Texas – The Mulerider Men's golf team finished the first two rounds of their spring opener in 5th place of 17 teams after shooting 295 in round one and 298 in round two, 17 strokes above par and three strokes ahead of the closest GAC team. The Muleriders led six teams who represented the Great American Conference including UAM, Henderson State, Harding, SNU and Arkansas Tech. Four Muleriders finished in the top-35 with sophomore Logan McDonald leading the team, shooting a combined 2 strokes under par after the first two rounds.
The Muleriders recorded a combined nine birdies in round one and 11 in round two. They shot for par 114 times, the third best figure of the 17 teams. As a team, the Muleriders averaged +11 at par 3s, +32 at par 4s and -6 at par 5s.
Logan McDonald recorded five birdies in the first round of play at the Houston Classic to shoot 69, three strokes under par, and record his first career round in the 60s. He represents the third Mulerider this season to shoot a round in the 60s (Miller, Harrington NSU Classic). He shot +1 alongside Luke Cote in the second round. McDonald shot even par at par three scoring opportunities, +1 at par 4s and -3 at par 5s and had the best day of all GAC golfers at the tournament.
Connor Harrington finished in the top third of golfers shooting two over par in the first round and three over in the second round. Harrington shot for par 24 times and recorded four birdies. He found the most success at par 5s, shooting -3 and shot +2 on par 3s and +6 on par 4s. Harrington will enter the final round of play on Tuesday tied for 27th.
Luke Cote and Caleb Miller are both tied for 34th alongside six other golfers. Cote shot 78 in round one and 73 in round two while Miller shot 74 in the first round ad 77 in the second. Cote recorded the most pars on the team with 27 and recorded two birdies on the day. He shot even at par 5s, +3 at par 3s and +4 at par 4s. Miller recorded five birdies and shot even with par 21 times. He shot -3 at par 5s, +2 at par 3 scoring opportunities and +8 at par 4s.
Alex Gerrard wrapped up first day action for the Muleriders tied for 83rd. He shot 84 in round one and 80 in round two and shot for par 18 times.
The men will tee off tomorrow morning for the final 18-holes at the Houston Classic. Live scoring will be available here.
