MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Only playing in one game this weekend due to covid-19 protocols among the Arkansas-Monticello women's basketball program, the Southern Arkansas University women's basketball team will look to show off their high scoring offense for the second time this season against Henderson State University in Arkadelphia tomorrow afternoon.
The Muleriders 10-10 (5-9 GAC) last took on HSU 12-8 (7-7 GAC) on December 4
th in Magnolia in a contest that saw 211 combined points. SAU took down the Reddies 112-99 behind a season high 28 points from
Kisi Young and 23 points from
Ariana Guinn. The 112 points from the Muleriders is their second highest point total this season as they would post 115 against Champion Christian 10 days later. SAU has gone 5-8 since that contest while HSU has gone 7-6.
SAU still holds the No. 2 spot in the nation for scoring offense with 84.4 ppg. The Muleriders are led by a trio of double-digit scorers with Young leading the way with 14.1 ppg.
Diamond Morris, who has scored in double figures in seven of her last eight outings is averaging 11.44 ppg, while Guinn is averaging 10.0 ppg. The Muleriders have outscored their opponents 1688-1631 this season.
The Muleriders are shooting 38.5 percent from the floor on the year (596-1548). Young leads SAU in shooting percentage at 54.5 percent and she is the only Mulerider to make 100 field goals this year (108-198). Morris has also done a nice job getting the ball in the rim with 69 made field goals which is good for second on the squad.
SAU has three players with 30+ made three pointers on the season as
Jessica Jones leads the team with 35 made threes (35-99, 35.4 percent).
Kylie Warren (31-107, 29 percent) and
Kenzie Ezekiel (31-90, 34.4 percent) have both knocked down 31.
Mychala Linzy has been heating up from behind the arc has she has connected on 29-of-72 attempts for 40.3 percent. The Muleriders are shooting 31.8 percent from deep as a team.
The Muleriders lead the Great American Conference in steals with 267 and average 13.4 per game and they also lead the GAC in offensive rebounds with 383. Ezekiel leads SAU with 33 steals followed by Morris with 30 and Warren with 28. Young has been a force on the boards this season for the Muleriders as she is pulling down 6.9 per game. She has collected 70 on defense and 61 on offense. Warren is second on the team with 4.7 rebounds per game.
HSU comes into Saturday's contest averaging 78.5 ppg. The Reddies have been led by Ashley Farrar (17.2 ppg), Gracie Raby (10.9 ppg), Karrington Whaley (10.3 ppg) and Lani Snowden (10.2 ppg). The Reddies are shooting 43 percent from the floor and 34.7 percent from three. Karrrington leads HSU with 8.2 rebounds per game.
