Hot Springs, Ark. - Junior Caleb Miller recorded his fourth career eagle in round two of play at the Battle for the Belt. Miller was one of only 12 golfers to record an eagle between both rounds of play. His second round consisted of 14 pars, one birdie, an eagle and two bogeys to finish one under par for a final total of 71.
At the end of the first day, SAU holds a total score of 598 after shooting 302 in round one and 296 in round two. Southern Arkansas finished round one in tenth place, but fought back in round to two move up to eighth place and improve by six strokes. The Muleriders currently stand in 8th place of 11 teams and ended the day with 19 birdies and the second most pars of all teams with 107.
Both Miller and junior Connor Harrington finished two above par in round one. Miller finished the day tied for sixth place in the 62-golfer field with his combined score of 145. Harrington wrapped up the day tied for 19th place after shooting a 74, two over par in consecutive rounds. Throughout day one of competition, Miler recorded the most pars in the competition with 27 and recorded three birdies on the day. He shot +2 in all par-3 scoring opportunities and +2 in all par-4 scoring opportunities. Harrington finished +3 in all par-4 scoring opportunities and recorded 23 pars and five birdies throughout the 36 holes.
Another Mulerider to finish in the top-25 is sophomore Logan McDonald, who finished out day one tied for 24th after shooting rounds of 74 and 75. He recorded 20 pars, six birdies and finished in the top ten with his –4 in all par-5 scoring opportunities.
Freshman Luke Cote shot an 80 in round one and 76 in round two to total 156 on the day and will enter the second day of competition tied for 49th place. Cote recorded 20 pars throughout the two rounds of play and finished +2 in all par-4 scoring opportunities. Senior Tim Ryan shot an 80 in round one and a 79 in round two for a cumulative score of 159. He totaled four birdies on the day and shot for par 18 times. Senior Brendan Little shot 87 in round one and improved 79 strokes in round two for a total score of 166.
Southern Arkansas will return to the Arlington course at the Hot Springs Country Club tomorrow for the final 18 holes to conclude play at the Henderson State Battle for the Belt. Fans can find live scoring here.
