MAGNOLIA – The SAU Men's and Women's Track and Field teams compete this weekend when they host the fourth Dan Veach Invitational. This will be the first edition of the Dan Veach in two years and the first meet the Muleriders have hosted since they hosted the Mulerider Relays in February of 2020.
So far in the spring season, the Muleriders have competed at three meets – the Mississippi College Spring Opener, the Hendrix Invitational and the NextEra Energy Bison Relays.
The Muleriders will welcome a bevy of teams into the Mulerider Track Complex – GAC rivals Harding and Ouachita Baptist, as well as Lyon College, Ranger College, Hendrix, Arkansas Baptist, Bossier Parrish, Centenary, Jacksonville College and Philander Smith.
The events will start on Friday at 1 p.m., with the hammer throw starting things off before being followed by the javelin throw.
Saturday's festivities will start at 9 a.m. with the discus throw, the pole vault and the high jump. The shot put will follow the discus, and at 11 a.m., the triple jump will take place followed by the long jump.
1 p.m. will see the start of the running events, which will happen on a rolling schedule.
Kobe Gill has won the 100 meter sprint in each of the past two meets, as well as the long jump. His efforts two weeks ago at the Hendrix Invitational saw him named the GAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
Chauncey Blake has taken the past two triple jump events he has competed in, his best jump being 13.74 meters, and at the Hendrix Invitational,
Sal Guli won the discus, hammer and shot put throws.
On the women's side,
Carley Hale,
Devlin Rivera,
Alexis Matlock,
Kamrin Hooks,
Cecilia Quesada and
Rozlyne Manor have all claimed event victories this spring.
This will be one of two meets the Muleriders host this season; they will also host the GAC Championships on April 16-17.
