WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Southern Arkansas senior golfer
Kirk Peterson shot a team-low 74 (+3) on Tuesday to solidify himself a tie for fifth-place individually while the Muleriders, as a team, shot an even 300 to jump up three spots in the team standings and finish fifth overall among the 18-team field at the Midwestern State Invitational which was held at the par-71, 6,708-yard Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Peterson, a native of El Cajon, Calif., turned in his best tournament of the year and second-best in his two-year career at SAU, thanks in large part to his nine overall birdies and tournament-best -2 scoring on all Par 3s.
Yesterday, Peterson put himself in the top-five of the player leaderboard after a strong second round of the day and tournament as he shot a +1 (72).
Behind Peterson once more were
Jacob Etherington and
Evan Buchalski as the two managed to mirror one another's scores in the third round with +4 (75) efforts. On Monday, Etherington and Buchalski matched each other's first and second rounds as well. The 229 three-round score for Etherington and Buchalski tied the two for 22nd-place overall.
After rounds in the 80s on Monday,
Kyle Gordon helped lower the Muleriders' team score with a +5 (76) final round on Tuesday. Two strokes ahead of Gordon by tournament's end was freshman
Kevin Elder as he ended with a three-round score of 240.
The Muleriders will now prepare to close out their fall season on the links as they will take part in the Ranger Fall Invitational, hosted by Northwestern Oklahoma. The two-day tournament will be played at the Medowlake Golf Course in Enid, Okla. and will begin on Sunday, October 25 and conclude Monday, October 26.
