Missed free throws loom large in 67-51 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma

Box Score

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The "charity stripe" was not charitable at all to the Southern Arkansas women's basketball team on Thursday night as the Lady Muleriders, in their first action in over two weeks, shot just 17% (3-of-18) from the free throw line. The struggles from the line for the Lady Muleriders did not duplicate for Southeastern Oklahoma, however, as the Savage Storm shot 67% (23-of-35) en route to handing SAU a 67-51 loss.

Despite the overall difficulty from the free throw line, the Lady Muleriders (6-4, 2-2 GAC) only went to the line five times in the first half, making one of those five attempts. Without going to the line much, the Lady Muleriders still controlled the game for a majority of the first half as they trailed by only two points early in the half and held a lead as large as 10 points.

The Lady Muleriders would take a four-point lead, 34-30, into the locker room.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Muleriders stretched their lead out to eight points as Barvion Wyatt scored back-to-back baskets. After that, the Savage Storm (6-3, 3-0 GAC) would threaten the Lady Mulerider lead as a quick 6-0 run cut the lead down to two points, 38-36.

Just under four and a half minutes later, the Savage Storm would take their first lead since early in the first half as they pushed past the Lady Muleriders, 43-41, with 12:28 left in regulation. That would be the final lead change of the game as the Savage Storm would limit the Lady Muleriders to just 10 points the rest of the way out.

10 Lady Muleriders would score in the game with Aarika Reyna leading the way with 10 points. Miranda Grier would lead the team in rebounds with 15.

The Lady Muleriders will look to bounce back on Saturday as they will play host to East Central. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 2 p.m. inside the W.T. Watson Center.
